Discover the plants and animals that live at the water’s edge.
Natural shorelines are important, but are a less common sight today in NYC due to urban development. During this program, students learn about the native plants, birds and marine creatures that thrive in this coastal environment. This program occurs fully outdoors at Pier 26.
This field trip is available to book Fridays in September and October.
Program Objectives
- Students will be able to define and identify the ecological significance of an Estuary
- Students will be able to define the difference between gray infrastructure and green infrastructure
- Students will be able to identify several native & non-native bird & plant species
- Students will be able to recognize three different coastal habitat zones
Program Information
- Student capacity: 30 students per program
- Cost: $200 (waivers available upon demonstration of need)
- Teacher chaperones: One chaperone is required for every 10 students (1:10 ratio) at minimum
